The pubic are under the change of theculture and society with more mature civic awareness and the responsibility to protect theenvironment. They have the need to enjoy healthy life and avoid the jam and noise of the traffic.As a result, they want to get their destinations by foot if it is possible. Now there is the need todesign a wayfinding system for the new users. The paper is based on this background and theaim is to have a research on the wayfinding system for walking in public space.The paper is consisted of three main parts. The first part is based on practical problem,studying and researching the scientific gains of predecessors, especially the theory of mentalmap. The second part is based on the study of different users, researching how people think andact when they are walking, exploring the spatial awareness of humans and improving themental maps in pedestrians’ brains. This part also research the principles of informationdelivery at the same time.
