Due to the different developing period of philosophy system from its birth, development to mature, artists of different period have a deeper and further understanding of human as it is. This understanding is the basis and indispensable spiritual motivation of expressionist and it supports the development of the expressionist painting. Western Expressionism has turned to a subjective experience and expression formation the objective attention and committed to the form for the purpose of creating individualized consciousness of life and survival experience which has a profound impact on the occurrence and development of expressive painting. This article analyses the performance of the painting between the Chinese and Western philosophy from their agreements on the cultural context. From a historical perspective, we research the profound inspiration of western expressionists on Chinese contemporary oil painting by exploring the ethos of Western expressionism painting.This article describes the incoming and its effects of Western expressionism into China in details, sorts out the cultural context and ethos of contemporary manifestations painting on the basis of artist cases study, and analyses the reasons why and what we should learn from Western Expressionist painting language and its spiritual connotation so as to demonstrate the trends and the inevitability of contemporary manifestations painting. In addition, apart from having the powerful Western expressionism system as reference, the development of Chinese expressive painting also has the Chinese traditional painting’s art features of focusing on vivid and impressionistic as foreshadowing. The original imagery inherent of Chinese culture is a great cultural heritage in the understanding and absorption of the spirit of Western expressionism art theory, whose internal accumulation become the driving power behind the performance of its local culture, which guides the formation and development of Chinese contemporary manifestations painting.
