As an important musical type of mainland China music in the1990s, campus folk arose in mainland China’s social and cultural environment in1994and declined in the late20th century. Its main content is pure love and friendship, melancholy of youth and befuddlement of ideal, its basic feature is light sentiment. Since campus folk came into being, researchers have neither noticed sentiment nor analyzed sentiment in great detail. Therefore, I try to discuss the sentiment of mainland China’s campus folk from a perspective of aesthetic culture so that people will have a relatively complete light on campus folk. This paper is divided into five parts to study the sentiment of campus folk concretely. The introduction presents the researches on campus folk and the reasons of writing this paper. The first chapter outlines the campus folk and sketches its sentiment. The chapter briefly introduces the occurrence and development of campus folk at first, then the chapter highlights the sentiment of campus folk through putting the campus folk into mainland China’s history of popular song since the new stage of reform and opening-up policy as well as studying contrastively western folk and campus songs of Taiwan in the late1970s and the early1980s which both have influenced the campus folk. The second chapter dwells on the concrete reflections of the sentiment, the reflections are the lost of love, melancholy of youth, befuddlement of ideal and recollections of the good old days.
