Syntax is an important part of linguistics, In linguistic history, functionalism and structuralism put their own interpretation on grammar phenomenon from their respective viewpoint, Systemic functional grammar system was established by Halide,who was the representative of the functionalism,"An introduction to functional grammar"is his classic work. Transformational generative grammar was set up by Chomsky, who was the representative of structuralism,"syntactic grammar"was his typical work. Tenseere discussed the general law of language form in "elements of syntactic structure",he was not summing up absolute syntactic rules in form, but combine together with semantic function, this is limited to introspection.Introspection explains that language form is shaped by semantics, to which is reacted by language form; introspection reveals the reason syntactic is.Connection guarantees organic existing of word in sentence. Syntax form is treated as the linear order that make words together. Semantic perception is the process of linear order to structure order. Tenseere explored the tree structural dependency relations between semantic categories, This structure shows us general rules of sentence: verb in dominant position, which is directly or indirectly subordinated by other dependency categories. And such dependency categories are regarded as valences of verb. Tenseere argued that transformation of simple sentence to complex one are mainly through the procedure of combination and translation:ombination directly creates complex sentence, which is due to’quantity’influence on sentence; with the same result, translation make a different’quality’influence on sentences.Basing on English grammar study, I discover that exchange between two languages are influenced by grammatical form, however, to break through the form to realize semantic comprehension and translation dream, we will return to Tenseere’s introspection that we have to refresh our deliberation of the source language and object language comprehension and expression mechanism, as a result convincing us of necessity of interlanguage. Tenseere’s thought are consistent with practical process of translation. In order to have a good understanding of thread of Tenseere’s thought, we track down his way of work and draw theory water as we find from his book to serve translation practices, this paper launches the elaboration from following four chapters:Chapterlthis paper first introduces the background of dependency grammar and its influence on modern linguistics. furthermore discussions on his concept of verb note and valence, which are derived from Teenier ’s exploration.Chapter2then elaborate on three core notions of connection、combination and translation in his dependency grammar work.Chapter3with three corn notions in syntactic grammar, this chapter make every efforts to apply these skills to translation: valence and translation system to English-Chinese translation; Tree structure based on dependency relation and introspection to Chinese-English translation.Chapter4finally address some instructions on grammarian’s embarrassing comments and put the finishing touches to his theory with a view to formalization.
