| Frederic Jameson is a representative figure of American contemporary WesternMarxism. He is known as "perhaps the most important cultural critic who writes inEnglish". Frederic Jameson’s academic theories are extremely complex, involving literature,art, mass media, politics, economics, society and many other aspects. This dissertationfocuses on Jameson’s theory of textual interpretation from mainly three aspects.The part of introduction introduces the life and academic profession of FredericJameson, followed by an overview of the current researches on Jameson’s academic theoryboth at home and abroad.The first chapter explores the theoretical sources of Frederic Jameson’s theory oftextual interpretation, which include Marxism as the basic standpoint, and then Freud,Lacan, Althusser, and Frye’s theories relating respectively to psychoanalysis, symptomaticreading, mythological mode and other theories as the expansion and supplement to hisMarxism hermeneutics.The second chapter analyzes Frederic Jameson’s theory of textual interpretation.Taking "historization","generaliztion" and "meta-commentary" as the basic principles,Frederic Jameson proposed his specific interpretive methods which consist of concentricframework and code transformation.The third chapter focuses on how Frederic Jameson applies hiss theory of textualinterpretation to practice, the chosen text are Lord Jim by Conrad, Sarrasine by Honoré de Balzac, Wasteland by T.S.Eliot, and the works of Lu Xun as the representative of the thirdworld literature.In the ending part, the dissertation attempts to summarize mainly the contributionsand deficiencies of Frederic Jameson’s. |
