The important role the middle class has played in American history isunquestionable. Therefore many scholars carry out various studies on the Americanmiddle class.Based on the previous studies, the middle class and suburban life come to beseen as one and the same idea, so the majority of residents in suburbs belong to themiddle class. The relocation of middle-class residential places from cities to fringeshas brought about significant change in their values, entertainment, living styles,residential surroundings, and neighborhood relationship. As for suburban housingadvertisement in the United States, its target customers are middle-class residents andmigrants, so that the real estate dealers can make profits as much as possible. So inthe thesis, the author will prove that the American suburban housing advertisementsreflect three middle-class values.In Chapter One, the author will explain why the suburban advertisementsfrequently refer to the features including diversity in architecture, public facilities forentertainment, children-friendly environment and spaciousness. In Chapter Two, theauthor will illustrate why the advertisements often mention the property values withdiverse ethnics, long history of a neighborhood and sense of community. In ChapterThree, the author will analyze the reasons why the suburban advertisements usuallyfail to neglect the natural surroundings, numbers of bathrooms and bedrooms andbackyard for domesticity..With classification and analysis, the author will conclude that the Americansuburban housing advertisements reflect three middle-class values: pursuit ofmiddle-class status, emphasis on stability and stress on family&individual privacy.
