The writer, Chen zhongshi, was born in1942, his growth witnessed the hugechange of China from before liberation to today, and he described this period ofhistory he ecperienced in his novel Bailu Plain, which won the fourth MaoDunLiterature Award. BaiLu Plain described the history of that period between the end ofQing dynasty and the beginning of new China, and this history has beenchoosen, spliced and compiled by the author Chen zhongshi, which is indeed thehistory shown by text, and is the history with textuality. At the same time, as a epictemperament literature work which records and rethinks history, was published in thatspecial period, and after its appearence, on the one hand it obtained a great sales, onthe other hand, was demanded to be changed by MaoDun literature Prize juries, andwas cut when it was made into a film. What it suffered shows that the text itself is alsoa historical event, and it is a incompleted, open, and kept being explained by peopleconstantly, which is a text with historicity. So this article attempts to discuss BaiLuPlain from the new historicism perspective. This paper consists of introduction, body and conclusion. Introduction part willintroduce Chen zhongshi and his literary career, revealing the influence on his latercreation of reflecting literature from his growth background, and "local complex" inhis literary works; then I will introduce the current research situation of BaiLu Plain;finally I will introduce the new historicism theory briefly. The first chapter will start from the birth of "BaiLu Plain", introduce thehistoricity of it as it came out in that special era, and the effect reflected by the itscontent in that era.The second chapter following the first chapter, will introduce itssuffering after its birth, its huge sales volume in the folk; its evaluation mixedcriticises and praise; it was asked to amend by MaoDun literature Prize juries; it spent20years on the road to movie, and some plot of the film was cut off after itscompletion. Its birth and all these experiences reflect the situation of the text beingread in that times, which has a certain historicity. In the third chapter, I will, from the perspective of the ancestral hall of the novel, through the role and the funtion of the ancestral temple in the novel, reveal theauthor’s attitude about ancestral hall and ancestral temple culture and the Confucianmoral, and interpret such a history of ancestral hall presented by the author. In thefourth chapter, I will, from the harmonious relationship between BaiJiaxuan andLuSan, reveal the author’s attitude about class struggle, and interpret the history oflandlords and peasants, which is compiled the author. Once the real historical eventshappened, it came to an end,and it can’t be correctly restored and interpreted.Thehistory of these ancestral temple and of landlords and peasants in BaiLu Plain isselected matched and compiled by the author, which contains texuality of the histories.Based on the research of the body parts, this paper will draw the followingconclusion: BaiLu Plain is a work with "history" and "text" blending mutually, whichis shaped by history, and the"rethinking literature" product needed by the era. At thesame time its birth and suffering led to some historical events, shaping the history.
