The history of Japanese colonial rule in Dalian must be borne in mind. Because first, the history can alert future generations and encourage Chinese people to step forward in the great road of national rejuvenation. Second, the history of Japanese colonial rule in Dalian is indeed today’s mirror, which is not only a painful lesson, but also a good thing.A research of the urban-rural relations of Dalian in the process of urbanization under the Japanese colonial rule should be able to uncover the false prosperity of Dalian and be revealing about greedy and sinister Japanese colonialism. And it should be able to uncover the fact of the urbanization and urban-rural development of Dalian stepping on the wrong road in this period. The negative impact of the fact is long-term and in-depth. And we must learn from it. Also the research should be able to tell Chinese people to overall look upon the urban-rural relations and urbanization of Dalian under the Japanese colonial rule, find the benefits of it to today’s urbanization of Dalian and help to solve the problem of urban-rural dual structure in China’s urbanization process. The urban-rural relations of Dalian under the Japanese colonial rule are the relationship in the process of urbanization. This is a basic judgment. It shows that the development and evolution in urban and rural areas is essentially caused by urbanization. And not only it reflects the Japanese colonial exploitation, but also it is the choice, which is made by the people of Dalian, in accord with the trend of the times. So political, economic and cultural intense interaction between urban and rural areas caused by the development and evolution in urban and rural areas reflects anti-feudal progress and colonialist exploitation. It creates the unique history of Dalian and the unique Dalian’s urban-rural relations which are different from other parts of China. The Dalian’s urban-rural relations counterreflect the process of urbanization. And it finally and profoundly changes the trajectory of the process of urbanization in Dalian. It makes a great contribution to the modernization of Dalian. But its pros and cons also need to be viewed and analysed in the round. This paper, which includes two viewpoints of city and country, analyses the urban-rural evolution and interaction under the Japanese colonial rule, investigates the change of the urban-rural relations in contact with the process of urbanization, identifies the characteristics of the urban-rural relations of Dalian under the Japanese colonial rule and shows an objective evaluation. I hope this paper can compensate some lacks of science and it can make a unique contribution to today’s urban-rural construction of Dalian.
