Wu Qian was a famous book collector of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in the Qianlong and Jiaqing years of the Qing dynasty, and was praised by people with Huang Pilie in Wu together. He was born in a Merchants family of salt and was famous for his poetry in the west of Zhe Jiang in his youth. He loved collect ancient and valuable books and worked hard for collating. At last, he became a celebrity who both had virtue and artistic achievements. He had no sense to be an official, but indulged in the landscape and books. Therefore, he could make friends with so many classicists. When he was old, he was so famous that not only the young people were around him but also the famous officials invited him to join theirs’party. All these formed a typical circle of friendship around the scholars that belonging to the lower classes. Meanwhile, he wrote a large number of poems in his life, which could be regarded as his diary. He studied from so many people that made his poems elegant, distant to artistic conception and was rich in literary quotations and comments, which reflect to the station of the poems creation in the middle of the Qing dynasty. This article relates and analysis four aspects, including life, social association, poetry and prose. By sketching the trace of the life of Wu Qian, reveals his achievements and role of the literary history.
