As a kind of relatively special word groups, color words are large innumber and various in classifications. With the profound national culturecontained, color words have been widely studied by many scholars.Though the records of color words have existed for a long time, the actualresearches on them are made in the modern times. So far, scholars havepaid much attention to the comparison of color words in English andChinese,the constructions as well as th Mandarin Chinese culturalimplication of color words. Except for those mentioned above, the studyon other aspects of color words is rare.So are color words in the dialects.With the distinct features of its color words, Ou-dialect is one of themain dialects in Wenzhou.While some of the color words in Ou-dialectare consistent with Mandarin, others are so unique which may havenothing to do with it. Looking up many dialect dictionaries, a number ofcolor words in Ou-dialect are collected. And this thesis are based on thosecollected color words. On the basis of previous study, this thesis probes into the colorwords in Ou-dialect from the perspectives of linguistics, lexicology andculturology. And totally, Six parts constitutes the thesis.The first part comes the introduction, it is a brief introduction of thestudy of color words and Ou-dialect at home and abroad.In the second part, color words of the Ou-dialect are divided intofour categories from the view of lexicology,namely monomial, compound,repeated and derivative type.For the third part, from the aspect of comparison, the thesis focuseson the differences between the color words of Mandarin Chinese andOu-dialect, including basic color words, the number of color words,semantic evolution and so on.Based on the culturology, the fourth part mainly describes reflectionof the social and folk customs in the color words as well as themanifestation of the colour words in the development of handicraft. Dueto the profound cultural connotation of the basic color words “red” and“white” in the area of Wenzhou, this part mainly discusses social customsand folk customs reflected by these two color words.The fifth part, combining with the practice, separately lists twospecial kinds of color words (two forms: words “tender, middle, deep”+roots of basic color words, cardinal numbers “one, two, three”+roots ofbasic color words)and explains the reasons for their disappearance. Finally, the sixth part sums up the previous articles and points outthe shortages.In conclusion, based on the previous studies, this thesis attempts tomake a research on the color words in Ou-dialect by analyzing the colorwords in the actual language materials of Ou-dialect.And it aims to offera better understanding of the color words in Ou-dialect.I hope this thesiscan further promote the study of dialectology, lexicology, cognitivescience and culturology.
