Application Of Collage In Fashion Design

Collage technique or collage, a special technique commonly used in fashion design, is a time-seasoned decoration phenomenon and art form of fixing pieces of cloth on a surface. The common form of collage is sewing and sticking together regular or irregular shapes of varied color fabrics of the same or different textures to achieve the desired effect in fashion design. This form of art has its root in the history of many countries around the world. Take China as an example, starting with the secondary color skirt of the Tang Dynasty, collage is gaining popularity from ordinary people to the royal court, from the fashion circle to the street, and from stage performance to made-to-measure fashion design; now it has found its way into various fields of art and become one of the increasingly popular art forms. This thesis starts with the use of collage in fashion design, explores and summarizes its characteristics from the application of collage in history and the up-to-date techniques used in current fashion design, analyzes the reasons and focuses on exploring the innovation and application of collage technique to guide future designs and practices.This thesis contains seven chapters. The first chapter provides a brief introduction on the topic of research, its content and structure and the research achievements. The main body of this thesis goes from the second chapter through the fourth chapter. This section explores the implications of collage on traditional costumes from the concept of collage form, historical review, characteristics and application, analyzes the reasons, and seeks a breakthrough in the innovation of current fashion design from the three basic factors such as material, color and structure. As the key section of this thesis, the fifth chapter summarizes technique innovations based on previous analysis and applies them in the design work. The sixth chapter is the conclusion section of this thesis.
