Research Relating To Chinese Calligraphy Spacing in Modern LayoutDesign Traditional Chinese calligraphy is widely used in modern layoutdesign. Infusing modern layout design with traditional Chinese calligraphy isan important channel to achieve nationalization and localization. Chinesecalligraphy also brings a rich visual effect to modern design. Spacing incalligraphy is an important part of creative layout design theory and it hasgreat and direct influence on modern visual arts and layout design. The theory of spacing in calligraphy consists of three key elements–lines, structure and principle. All these elements of calligraphy form a newcreative paradigm for modern layout design and more importantly theseelements inspire and give modern design a sense of dimension, balance andrhythm. The sense of dimension is reflected in the contrast of black and whitecolors, the solid and broken lines of calligraphy; the sense of balance isreflected in the difference between the dynamic state of Chinese charactersand static state of Chinese characters; and, the sense of rhythm is reflected inthe variety in sizes of characters. As the study of the theory of calligraphy spacing evolves, the spacebetween characters, the proportion of pictures and characters, colorscollocation, ink’s dark and light color, the structure and styles of fonts and theeffect of changing sizes of characters have all been adapted and implemented in modern layout design by visual artists. This evolution of design hasprovided designers with the theoretical and technical support necessary toproduce compelling yet functional layouts.
