Why Zeus Locks Prometheus

Facing the same two bundles of grass,"Buridan’s donkey" eventually starved to death because of difficult choices. Now, in the reflection enlightenment, human have to face the same situation with "Buridan’s donkey".Originally, the old patriarchal clan system already defined "what is good life" according to the "theodicy" order, which respects the regard precedence, therefore there’s nothing can be done but to abide by its rules. But enlightenment happens to ask why use the so-called "authority" to get the guidance of life’s basic beliefs?When human beings try to use their own reason in a constantly new way to subvert the traditional practices, the problem has repeatedly exposed. Ultimately, the question that what kind of life is the most worthy to live can not be enlightened by rationality.Thus, in this dilemma, people inquire with the difficult and dangerous, more and more toward the " two sides of one " situation of both absolutism and nihilism——Either to absolute paranoia "one", trying to arbitrarily establish a system of integrity of all things;Or simply denies all thoroughly, think that everything is as nothing.How to prudently think about modern enlightenment issues? Going back to the classical works and tracing back its roots may provide for a feasible way. This paper selected "Prometheus myth",which is a story being retold endlessly in Hesiod’s "Theogony" and "Works and Days",Aeschylus’s "Prometheus Bound" and Plato’s "Protagoras", as an entry point to conduct reflective thinking about the relations between patriarchal clan system and enlightenment in the source with the eyes of the ancients thought inquiring why Zeus locks Prometheus and also referring to the explanations of ancient Greek myth, tragedy and philosophy; and then, by doing so, it mirrors the issues existing in today’s technology and democratic system, and finally seek the right direction in which humans should follow.
