Four-character Chinese idioms constitute a unique and beautiful scenery of Chinese language. They are not only numerous, but also widely used in real life; they not only have a rich ethnic and cultural heritage, but also play a very important role in daily communication. At present, the papers and books that focus on the English translation of four-character Chinese idioms are very limited in number. In addition, because of the existing subjective or objective factors, the research in this field mainly concentrates on the clarification of Chinese idioms as a whole, and then put forward their corresponding translation strategies according to some related theories. With time going on, the limitations of the previous research are becoming more and more obvious. Based on the research results, this paper intends to make a detailed survey and research of the English translation of four-character Chinese idioms from the perspective of cultural globalization and accordingly, put forward its corresponding translation strategies.The major findings of this research are as follows:1) Cultural globalization means both an established fact and an inevitable trend. It is unavoidable;2) The origins, linguistic features, cultural characteristics and translatability of four-character Chinese idioms are objective and relatively stable, which are the common foundations of the research on their English translation;3) Because, at present, most of the theoretical foundations on the English translation of Chinese idioms, including four-character Chinese idioms, are borrowed from the west, their explanatory power in this respect has proved to have limitations;4) The theoretical development can keep pace with, and reflect, the times; while the English translation of four-character Chinese idioms from the perspective of cultural globalization is to satisfy the demand of the times;5) The existing successful samples of the English translation of four-character Chinese idioms need a reasonable clarification and arrangement, because the dictionaries in this field are very rare, while newly translated versions for the same four-character Chinese idiom can still be found now and then; in other words, the existing translated versions call for a kind of specification as soon as possible.
