The particularity of the American history and the creation of US made the traditionalAnglo-Saxonism existing in the colonial era fall down. During the initial stage of US, the aim of thehistory education was to commit itself to the independent cultural development and the content ofhistory textbooks written by the amateur historians emphasized the heroes and their virtues. As forthe description on the suzerain-Britain, they focused on the Britain’s cruelty and autocracy mostlywhen having to refer to it. Until the very late nineteenth and early twentieth century, the upper classin US began to have the voice of retrospecting the Anglo-Saxonism in the new situation of the innerand outer countries. Furthermore, during the process of the amateur historians replaced by theprofessional historians, the content of history textbooks changeed a lot. The textbooks written byprofessional historians not only represented the heroes or some disgraceful historical events, butalso had the tendency of Anglo mania. Therefore, the Anglo-Saxonism began to revive. That arosethe fiercely and continuously debating which led to the famous trial of Textbook Treason in the1920s. With the combinations of the political, economic and cultural factors, the textbooks of theprofessional historians had eventually been recognized, and the Anglo-Saxonism was becoming themain trends of the epoch. The main part includes five sections. The first section retrospected the origin and dreariness of the Anglo-Saxonism; the secondsection refered that the feature of US was defined as the hero virtue’s exceptionalism during theinitial stage. therefore, the history textbook laid particular emphasis on the heroes and their virtueswhile describing the Britain’s cruelty and autocracy; The third section analyzed the motivation ofthe new situation of the inner and outer countries at the turn of the19thand20thcentury, thesuzerain-Britain history teexbook written by the professional historians was published, which madethe Anglo-Saxonism revive. The fourth section stated the debation arosed by the suzerain-Britainhistory textbook written by the professional historians, especially analyzing the famous trial ofTextbook Treason in the1920s; The fifth section indicated that the suzerain-Britain historyteexbook written by the professional historians stimulated by the waves of the immigrants wasmostly accepted during the indigenous and americanized movement. Thus, the main trend of theAnglo-Saxonism was established and strengthened the national characteristics and national identity. In a word, the American history textbook is a particular and complex domain. It is a complexproduct composed by the politics economy and culture than a pure product. It is also a epitome of asocial dynamic era. The establishment of the Anglo-Saxonism as the main content of the textbookreflectes the cultural cognition and cultural struggle during the different periods and communitiesand then emerges the American social change from a new point.
