Christian culture is the foundation of guilt culture, which is a cultural pattern produced by Western social culture. Guilt Culture originated from the original sin of the Christianity. The seven deadly sins, which are believed to be the evil of the moral dimensions of the human spirit, induced people to understand themselves, and then confess sincerely. The Cross, as a symbol of the Christian culture, embodies the spirit of the salvation of Christian culture. Since mankind is guilty, they inevitably need to atone for a salvation. Christian description of the ultimate fate of mankind is the eschatological and who can be saved is already decided. Then it comes with Eschatology predestination. In view of the full impact of the Christian culture on Western culture, Motion picture art, as a branch of the Western cultural art, naturally was influenced by Christian culture. Western horror film is based on the profound impact of Christian culture on the human culture. On point of horror, source of horror, victim, and executor of horror, it has fundamental differences between Western culture and Eastern culture influenced by Buddhism and Taoism. This paper will analyze Christian, its impact on Western culture, as well as further analysis of uniqueness of Western horror film based on such a culture. |
