During more than two hundred years piano etudes had emerged and developed as theinstrument manufacturing improved perfectly with the innovation of playing skills. Also, thecomposing and the playing of the etudes had gone through changes in the different musical history.In a romantic period of great prosperity of piano music, the composing and the playing of theetudes had presented many unprecedented characteristics. They inherited as well as innovated thetradition. They had the Historical Inevitability of the development of etudes as well as the specialcharacteristics of Romantic Music.In this period of music, the Chopin etudes and Liszt etudes are the perfect representatives.Although they have different composing styles and methods with distinct features, their etudesboth express vividly the characteristics of composing styles of the romantic music. The full text is broadly divided intothree parts:The first part is about background overview including the emergence and development of theetude genre and the formation and the main composing styles of Romantic Music. To providerelated background information for further analysis of the formation of composing styles, thissection will disentangle the development process of etude genre and the Romantic Music fromthe perspective of musical history.The second part is about the formation of the composing styles of the romantic piano etudes.In this section, the analysis of formation factors is divided into two parts from the points of theClassical period and the Romantic period and the thesis will probe important formation factors ofcomposing styles from some relative aspects.The last part is the analysis on the characteristics of composing styles of the romantic pianoetudes with taking Chopin etudes and Liszt etudes for example. As the focus of the thesis, this part will further discuss the characteristics of composing styles by analyzing the features of musicallanguage and composing techniques.The romantic piano etudes are the breakthrough-tradition works that are highly personalizedand very fascinating. In addition,the works pursuit bold changes and rich colors in the musicallanguage and composing techniques with characteristics of composing styles of musicality, titlemusic and renovation from the perspective of both the technique and the art.
