Landscape Painting Cunfa Program Research

The technique of the Cun is a common-used technique in Chinese landscape painting. Whatever the Cun of point, the Cun of line, or the Cun of side, they feature the formal beauty of writing, rhythm and texture, as well as the inner beauty of magnificent, intangible and vigorous in landscape painting. After the creation and inheriting by painters in thousands of years, the Cun gradually evolves as a particular stylized technique in landscape painting. During this process, the artists’natural depicting and portrayal to their hearts are both necessary. The traditional Cun technique and its stylized features of Chinese painting are of great significance in innovating future painting. After clearing out the understanding to connotation and denotation of the Cun in traditional sense, the innovation and development of Chinese painting, based on consistent exploration and founding, will possess infinite space.This paper, from analyzing the Cun and the history of its stylized feature, development and formation, aims at better understand its aesthetic direction and spirit, and to provide theoretical foundation for producing new landscape painting in new era.
