| Due to the development of science and technology, a large number of scientific and technological information is spreading in the global world quickly, so the translation of science and technology English is getting more and more attention. Science and technology English is a term with broad meaning. It includes medical English, engineering English and so on. This paper mainly focuses on the science and technology English of railway. Besides the general English features, English for Science and technology has its own features, the vocabulary being accurate, the concise and normative language, the formal tone, the objective statement, the practicality and speciality and so on. Therefore, the translation of science and technology English is different from other kinds of English, which must meet the special standards of translation with special translation skills. Due to the difference of expressions and language structure between English and Chinese, when we translate English to Chinese, we should add some necessary words or delete some unnecessary words on the basis of the original meaning according to the need of the grammar. The object is to make the translation fluent, smooth, natural and be in line with the Chinese expressions. Therefore, using the strategies of amplification and omission while keeping faithful to the original articles can improve the quality of the translation. In order to acquire the professionalism and accuracy of the translation, the paper elaborates these two strategies of translation in detail through analyzing a large number of examples in railway English texts. |
