As a significant discovery of the20th century, inscriptions on bones and tortoise shells discovered unearthed east of Huayuanzhuang among the Yin ruins(the follows are abbreviated "Hua Dong") has become research hot in the field of academic circles.The researches on Hua Dong has matured and although it now includes general excavation, oracle inscriptions epoch, status and position of prognosticator; oracle inscriptions form, in resent years the focus of the research on has changed to emphasize the study of the inscriptions, but especially to study the new characters and words which have received achievements.At the present time, a few of achievements have been made concerning verbs of Hua Dong. This subject still needs to be researched deeply. This dissertation aims mainly at the book of Hua Dong as the research material. It is important that we systematically research the meanings and usage of the verbs of Hua Dong by comparing and analyzing the available evidence.This dissertation has four parts. Its main contents are the following:The first part introduces the background of Hua Dong, value, general situation of verb researches, sources of material, research methods and style of dissertation etc.The second part, the number and kinds of Hua Dong’s verbs. There are182verbs of which there are two kinds. The two kinds are behavioral verbs and sacrificial verbs. We divide the behavioral verbs into several kinds, which include:existence and appearance, movement, action, giving and accepting, sensation, speech and order, diet, disease and dream, hunt, settlement, agriculture, construction, and astronomical phenomena etc. The sacrificial verbs we discuss are a comprehensive concept which includes sacrificial nouns and the methods of using animals for sacrifice.The third part is the core of this dissertation. According to the classification, we interpret the words correctly by collecting the experts, quoting classic ancient books, comparing the old inscriptions, and combining the latest achievements. Most of verbs’meanings are similar to the old inscriptions, but others still have some new usages It is worth researching and paying close attention to these new usages.The forth part summary. On the basis of the first three parts, we summarize the difficult words and make a chart at the end of this dissertation for looking up conveniently.
