Sentence ’使’and Markedness Of Causation

Preposition is an important way of expressing in Chinese, it locates before thenouns, marking the semantic between the noun and the verb. Most of the prepositioncome from verbs, but some prepositions are both noun and verbs, because theevolution is not thoroughly.This article starts with the part of speech of ‘使’，and combines with Categorytheory of Cognitive Linguistics to analyze the nature of ‘使’. It also reviews theevolution of ‘使’，and identify the reasons why sentence ‘使’ has become the typicalstructures of causative construction, from the respective of Diachronic Evolution.Linguistics. So we draw the conclusion that the part of speech of ‘使’ is dynamic,‘使’ was a verb at first, experiencing the extension of meaning, generalization ofcausation, weakening of the verb, and now it is still in the process of evolution. Ithas both the meaning of verb and the grammatical features of preposition, weak inverb and strong in preposition, is at the end of the evolution.On the basis of the prepositional features of ‘使’, this article analyze thesentence ‘使’ from multiple perspectives, such as syntactic structure, syntacticelements, semantic connotation and pragmatic functions. We also combine with alarge number of examples, make contracts longitudinally and horizontally, tosummarize the grammatical features, semantic feature and pragmatic features ofSentence ‘使’. By analyzing the grammatical function of prepositional phrase, webelieve that Sentence ‘使’ is a predicate sentence whose predicate is a prepositionalphrase. Sentence ‘使’ is divided into three parts A, B and C, and we describe thecomposition of the three part. We analyze the connotation of causation, distinguishthe causation and the cause, distinguish the causal reason and causal subject, solvethe problem of omission and inversion.This article summarize multiple kinds of structures of causative construction,after analyzing the internal features of the sentence ‘使’, We analyze the same andthe difference between the sentence ‘使’ and other causative structures by makingcomparisons and combining situations, so as to got superiority of Sentence ‘使’ onexpressing causation. Also we describe the progress of the sentence ‘使’from thehistorical perspective, and describe the semantic feature and grammatical feature ofevery historical stage. And finally came to the main reason why sentence ‘使’ hasbecome the typical structures of causative construction, replacing other causativestructures.
