In Chinese history，“fang” is a great variety of meaning word,duringthe process of development，“fang” becomes a functional complicatedfunction word.“fang” has a total original which is the verb that means“bing\bingchuan(并、并船)”,but it is also have a close ralationship with theoriginal meaning “pang(旁)”.During the period of neoteric Chinese,the number of the adverbfunction of “fang” is eleven.According to ‘Book of Songs’,“fang” havetwo functions which are the adverb of time and the scope adverb,it has sixkinds of meanings such as “ganggang（刚刚）”、“jiangyao（将要”）、“zhengza（i正在）”、“yongyuan（永远）”、“gong（共）”、“dou（都）”.Duringthe Pre-Qin period,“fang” has other the adverb functions,such as “yijing（已经）”、“cai(才)”、“zhi（只）”.“fang” is a adverb which has acomplicated function word,and it continues the porogress ofgrammaticalization,so it could be used as condition adverbs、 modaladverbs and manner adverbs.From meaning,the meaning of the verb “fang”is “bing”,its semanteme could be analysed as “+two or more two objects”,“+together with”,“+the space position flat line”.Thest semantemes have a relationship with the adverbs of “fang” and affect its development.The prepositions function of “fang” produce slightly later than theadverbs function.Its prepositions function is used from Pre-Qin period toQing dynasty.“fang” has a original which is the adverb of time adverbs“fang3”,and “bing” of the verb “fang”’meaning also affects its prepositionsfunction.Summing up the grammaticalization routes and factors of “fang”,thisthesis could be diided into five parts.The first chapter:prolegomenon.The author of this thesis mainlydescribed the previous research review.We will put forward the mainthought of this issue,and set forth the study methods as well as languagematerial selections.The second chapter: the research of “fang”’meaning.Sum up theprevious research review about the original meaning of “fang”,the autheradmit the review that “pang” is the real original meaning,and find thesecondary meaning and cloaking righteousness of “fang”.The third chapter:discuss the use and the functional development of theadverb “fang”,and study each meaning of grammar significance of t headverb “fang” and the reason which induces this grammatical mechanism.The fourth chapter: The prepositions of “fang” has a only function tomean time.
