The image of Vampires has a long history in Western culture, which always showsunique and bright in pieces of art. The Vampires Art has becoming a hot issue and its culturehas spreading out, all of these make Vampires constitute a dominant part of popular culture.With the development of human society, the image of Vampires possesses increasingly richextension and intension, which reflects the development and changes of society and shows thedeep cultural significance.First, this article traces the birth and development of Vampires in Western, the legend ofblooding-sucking behavior can be found from ancient civilization around the world. Becauseof the original worship of blood and blood taboo in religious culture, Vampires becomes ahorrible and evil image, due to the social and historical events in Europe and the plagueswhich caused mass deaths, the fear of Vampires has been strengthened. In18thcentury, thevampire image entered into the field of poetry from the myths and legends, and wasintroduced into novel, drama, movie, TV and other art forms after, it has already becoming animportant part in popular culture.Second, the image of vampires has been in existence for hundreds of years, whichchanges and develops all the time; vampires never show single and constant in art works, bycontrast, its meaning constantly enriched and its image shows diversity characteristics.Vampires are the outcome of the rich and mysterious human imagination; it places bothpositive and negative human emotions, which also influences human psychology. The articledivides the image of vampires in western art into three types: Evil Devil, Perfect Lover,Combination of Ghost and Human, and further analyses each type, discover the causes andthe internal driving forces, and the impact on human emotions.Third, this article deeply interprets the image of vampires; let the vampires as theimagination of human beings to explain, explore the metaphorical meaning vampires. Toanalyze the meanings and the effects that vampires as the fringe group and abnormal culture,the friction between mainstream and edge culture, multi-culture and single-culture and alsoexplore the issue that how they coexist. Vampires as the ‘otherness’ be abandoned andsuppressed by the mainstream areas, which questioned and challenged the human social recounts; the changeable of vampires reflects the conflicts and combats between Christian andHumanism.Last but not the least, this article not only points out vampires theme has been widelyconcerned in Western, but also concludes the situation that the art of vampires has been spreadout in mainland China. In traditional Chinese culture, ghosts and monsters have ever been asthe topic for many excellent art works. It has important implications for China’s domesticPhantom Culture that to analyze the spread situation of western vampires art works in Chinaand compare the differences between China and Western world and also analyze the reasonsfor its popularity.Vampire culture plays an irreplaceable role in popular culture world, it not only reflectsthe deeply psychology needs of human beings, but also refracts the changes of social structure.The image of vampires reflects human beings’ strong desire to powerful force and controllingover to own destiny, which has profound cultural meanings and spiritual symbol. This is amajor original intention of this paper.
