The theme of interpreter’s role in business interpreting has attracted researchers’ attentionin recent decades. To successfully complete an interpreting task, a business interpretershould not only possess excellent language capabilities but also be good at adjusting his-orherself to the current context via active coordination by making use of the bilingual skills.Unlike a translator who focuses on dealing with the static text, an interpreter faces thechanging discourse and various interactional problems when doing business interpreting.An interpreter, therefore, is judged by his or her comprehensive capabilities, includingproperly interpreting the dynamic discourse and flexibly tackling problems met in thebusiness interaction. Based on such recognition, the thesis conducts research on the activerole of business interpreter from the perspective of situated cognition. It testifies the properneed of the interpreter’s active role via case studies by applying theories of discoursestructuring and interaction. The thesis adds new interpretation and supporting data to thesituated cognitive research and at the same time provides institutional teaching of businessinterpreting with empirical reference.
