Wuthering Heights, as the only novel of Emily Bronte in19th century, published in December1947. Not only the classic work in British literature is it, but also a significant work has attracted large number of readers from various countries. The story happened at the end of18th century, with the ferocious appalling Yorkshire wild as its natural background, a series of tragic love stories moved on.The paper analyzes the hero-Heathcliff in the novel combining with Lacan’s three orders (the Imaginary Order, the Symbolic Order, the Real Order) to reveal the psychological change of Heathcliff from an orphan to an evil. The paper firstly gives a brief introduction to Wuthering Heights, literature review at home and abroad, and research objective of this thesis, especially describes the theoretical foundation including the origin and definition about Lacan’s three orders. And then the core of this paper deals with the formation of Heathcliff s self consciousness and comes to a conclusion that Heathcliff could not change the reality in the mirror phase, at the same time, the paper presents the symbolic meaning of villas and the speech, eg, Hindley Earnshaw, to analyze the twist of Heathcliff s personality in the symbolic order. With the theory of the real order, the paper searches out the real reason of Heathcliff s tragedy, and inevitable tragic death, and analyzes the truth that it is revenge makes him unhappy forever. The thesis has several innovation points. Secondly, since there are few works of literature analysis from philosophizer perspective the thesis enriches the result of the three orders research.
