This study is divided into two parts:The first experiment tested whether there is an explicit regional stereotype existing between Chengdu and Chongqing area or not by using a free association test which is an important method of measuring explicit stereotype. Participants were asked to write down the feeling about the two kinds of people.Research results showed that the participants in Chongqing were more likely to give Chongqing a positive evaluation and Chengdu a negative evaluation; while participants in Chengdu were more likely to give Chengdu people a positive evaluation and Chongqing a negative evaluation for everyone. The second experiment used the revised Chinese version of the Go/No-go Association Test (the GNAT) to study the implicit regional stereotype.
