The Analysis Of Translator’s Subjectivity In Emma From The Perspective Of Hermeneutics

The translator plays an irreplaceable role in translation practice. With"cultural turn",translator’s subjectivity gets scholars’ high attention and rapid delopment it deserves.Firstly, this paper has a theoretical research for the existence and role of translator’s subjectivity. And it draws the conclusion that the process of the interpreter’s interpreting texts in hermeneutics and the translator’s translation process have some commonalities.Secondly,combining the theory with the text, the paper summarizes the representative figure of hermeneutics Hans-Georg Gadamer’s three basic principles which are divided into three notions.They are prejudice, historicity of understanding and fusion of horizon.Through the comparison of some special instances in two Chinese versions of Emma from semantic expressions, religious customs and culture inheritance,the paper tends to demonstrate the influence of the target text to translator’s subjectivity. That is to say, the translator should constant adjust his own historical understanding and use legal prejudice flexibly so as to achieve the effect of fusion of horizon. From hermeneutic angle, this paper analyzes the reasonable existence and important reflection of translator’s subjectivity in two Chinese versions of Emma. So the author comes to the conclusion: in the process of interpreting original texts, the translator will have his subjective consciousness inevitably. Therefore, translator’s subjectivity should have a reasonable intervention which can avoid the phenomenon of misreading and mistranslation. At the same time, the translator should try his best to enlarge his own horizon and eliminate objective prejudice so that he can make his translation achieve the utmost fusion of horizon to original texts. The author also expects that this paper can not only provide a meaningful reference for literature translation, but also help to promote and develop the study of translator’s subjectivity.
