When it comes to conference interpreting, the most important part is the quality of theinterpreting output, of which the fluency or the number of pauses being one of thedefining factors. This thesis examines pauses in simultaneous interpreting through theanalysis of one of the author’s actual simultaneous interpreting case, with the titlebeing “Intelligence Square-Whether China should bailout Europe”. Also this thesisaims at finding pauses that could most undermine the interpreter’s performance andthe coping techniques of them through a customer survey on what kind of pausescould affect the interpreter’s credibility.
