Dunhuang manuscripts consisted of more than50,000volumes, which were scattered and collected in China, England, France, Russia, and Japan. The content was involved in all aspects of social life. With the prosperity of Dunhuangology, there are many research works about it, such as, compiling the directory of written volumes, content classification, transcription, interpretation and investigation. But the studies of written volumes about annals were slightly insufficient and the cohort study of manuscripts is lagging behind. The research work of internal total outlook of coetaneous written volume, glyph inheritance and evolution was more lack.In consideration of the insufficient of organizing and researching secular characters of Dunhuang’s writings, we choose the France collection of Dunhuang manuscripts as the research object in this thesis, and finished the secular characters exhaustively which dated from AD618to AD755years. Based on the possession of a lot of relevant information, we had some work on classification and study of secular characters, origin and discrimination of glyph, reason and analysis of secular characters, in order to make a preliminary exploration about characters situation at the time of Dunhuang manuscripts.
