A Study Of Tang Ren Shuo Hui

Tang Ren Shuo Hui is a large collection of classical Chinese novels which was published during the period of Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, altogether has include one hundred and sixty-four literary works of the Tang dynasty (including Wu Dai and Song Dynasty). Tang Ren Shuo Hui circulated widely in Qing Dynasty, it had many versions and had got gigantic welcoming of readers. Tang Ren Shuo Hui had two names after its name was changed as Tang Dai Cong Shu, and its Author also changed from one person Chen Shixi to three Chen Shixi or Wang Wengao/Shao xizeng. This situation continued until the period of end of Qing Dynasty and Republic of China. So Tang Ren Shuo Hui’s name and author right had not been completely clarified. In this paper, through the careful analysis of the content and preface and postscript of Tang Ren Shuo Hui and Tang Dai Cong Shu we find that this two books are exactly the same, and the author of the book is only Chen Shixi himself.The biggest drawback of Tang Ren Shuo Hui is that it contains a lot of Pseudographs which inherit from Tang Dai Bai Jia Xiao Shuo published in Ming Dynasty. This article gives a comprehensive analysis about the Pseudographs and does some textual criticism, so we have a more comprehensive understanding of Tang Ren Shuo Hui.The main contribution of Tang Ren Shuo Hui is its preservation of classical Chinese novels (especially the Chuan Qi), expand the text of the classical Chinese novels, and the consolidation of the classical Chinese novel status. At the same time, through specific reading the classical fiction anthology (anthology, the book series) including Tang Ren Shuo Hui, we can roughly understand the ancient novel ideals of evolution and the positive impact about the transmission of novel ideal and creation by the anthology (anthology, the book series).
