Language testing in language teaching is very important. Having a standardizedlanguage proficiency exam marks the development of a national language teachingprogress. In1984China has launched the Chinese proficiency test, testing of nonnativemandarin,to2009it has been already25years.In these25years, Chinese proficiencytest has been greatly developed, and constantly improved. In recent years, along withthe" Chinese fever" warming up continuously, more and more people taking part inthe HSK test, in order to better promote Chinese promotion, national Chinese office ofthe leading group in2009on the Chinese Proficiency Test undertook reform, introduceda new Chinese proficiency test. Chinese reading as an important part of languagelearning, reading comprehension is a natural as an important method to test secondlanguage learners’ Chinese ability. This paper takes The new Chinese proficiency testgrade four, five grade reading test as the research object, and compared it with the oldChinese proficiency test (elementary and secondary)reading part. The purpose isrespectively to help Chinese teachers and second Chinese learners understanding ofcharacteristics of new Chinese proficiency test reading test, resulting in view of thereading teaching method and learning more targeted.The full text is divided into five parts. The first part describes the research purpose,significance, research status, research methods. The second part introduces HSKresearch background, such as on the reading of the relevant theory, reading differencesbetween mandarin and second language learners.The third part uses statistical methodto undertake detailed analysis about the question types,reading content and title angleof the old Chinese Proficiency Test (elementary and secondary) and new HSK levelFour, level five reading part.The fourth part explains the third part of the analysisresults, comparatively analyses of the new Chinese proficiency test grade four, gradefive reading part and old HSK (elementary and secondary)reading part, explores themeaning of changing in the level of HSK grading test, reading question types andreading content. The fifth part respectively gives the Chinese teachers and taking Chinese as second language learners suggestions on Chinese reading teaching andlearning.
