With the quick development of economic and cultural constructions in our cuntry,soft power of culture became the focus of attention in society. Appearing of a seriesof national cultural incentive policy further spawned a new trend of cultural prosperityand development. Varitey cultural spaces which rely on cultural industury areconstantly emerging. For hosts of cultural space, at the same time, main task is how toleads people visit and learn purposfully and systermatically and tranfers culturalinformation gradually. The most direct aspect is building a visual communicationsystem which suitable for audiences as to make people visit in order and achieve theaim of education subtly. Visual communication system as a kind of media whichleads audiences to accepte information systematically must adapt to audiencescognitive style and ability, or it will not play proper effect. On that background, Ichoose association study between visual communication system design and audiencecognitive style as the research question for my master degree.Because that cultural space is a broad definiton and related to diverse expression,this thesis only choose typical cultural space such like museum, gallery andnon-commercial exhibition centre as research objects so as to concentrate on study inlimit time. Common characteristics of these research object included public,educational, cutural transmission and intellecual systematicness. Moreover,audiences of cultural space have higher level than other space’s audiences not only inenthusiasm or urgency of collecting information, but also in general knowledge,asethetic judgment and appreciation. Therefore, visual communication system designof this kind of cultural space do not copy bookish mode completely, but do researchpointedly.This essay starts with related conceptions of visual communication systemdesign, then combs general knowledge of visual communication system combiningwith cognitive style and feature of target audience. Based on system analysis ofgenerality feature, this essay focus on research relationship between visualcommunication system design and audience cognitive style and explore basic law in visual communication system design. In addition, it provides theories andknowledge preparation for specific design practices. This paper is divided into fourparts: first part, to analyses elements and features of visual communication systems soas to find basic thinking and main content of research; the second part whichdiscusses orientation of design and mainfestation mode by study of audiences andtheir cognitive style of cultural space. Views of visual communication systemdesign based on audiences cognitive are raised in the third part. What’s more, thispart carries out applied analysis with specific cases. In conclusion, a summary, somequestions of this reserach and follow-up research derection will be given.
