Proust’s Sign

In the past a hundred years, foreign academic researched on Proust’s "Remembrance of Things Past" from various angels since its birth. Among them, there had researches on the psychological, time, desires and memories; as well as the studies from the perspective of text reading and narratology of structuralism; even had the reinterpretations from philosophical angels. Nevertheless, the domestic research is mainly focused on the aspects of psychology, time and memories. This article changes the previous study views, and starts from Deleuze’s "Proust and sign". My expounding is based on Deleuze’s concept of sign, as well as the view that "Remembrance of Things Past" is a system of signs. Then I fully discuss the four major classes signs——the secular, love, feeling and art signs——which composited the system; described the four types of signs form the overall structure in a certain manner a specific process of production and proliferation. So, we define the art sign as the center. On this basis, this article systematically study the relationships between sign and truth, as well as art sign and Difference by the introduction of Difference in the philosophy category; discusses the contributions of secular, feeling and love signs in the course of discovering the truth from the angel of Truth and Difference. At the same time, the art sign gives the meaning back to the other three types of sign in the manner of an interactive campaign. In addition, the performances of the signs, such as over-interpretation, the displacement and metaphor, are also been discussed in this thesis. I expect that we will have a wholly new understanding of "Remembrance of Things Past" through the expounding above.
