Objectives: To investigate the current situation of occupational burnout of doctorsin west China, explore the impacts of personal factors and organizational factors tooccupational burnout, propose some advices for burnout intervention of Chineseclinical doctors on the basis of the outcomes of this study.Methods:653clinical doctors in west China were investigated by ChineseMaslach Burnout Inventory, Distributive and Procedural Justice, Cross-Cultural RoleConflict and Ambiguity, Job Demands and Decision Latitude, Work Family Conflicts,Social Support, Coping Style, EPQ and the questionnaire about social factors ofoccupational burnout among doctors produced by ourselves.Results: The status of occupational burnout among clinical doctors in west area ofChina is in a dismal state,74.1%of them experience difference degrees of burnout,26.8%in mild burnout,44.0%moderate burnout and3.4%severe burnout. InAddition, over a half of the sample are suffering great degree of Depersonalizationand Reduced Personal Accomplishment. There are significant differences of theburnout on educational background, the grade of hospital and professional title.Negative coping style, personality dimension, distributive justice, procedural justice,role conflict, role ambiguity, work interference with family, family interference withwork, family support and workload correlate significantly with doctors’ EE. Positiveand negative coping style, personality dimension, distributive and procedural justice,role conflict and ambiguity, Family interference with work, family support, workloadand job control correlate significantly with doctors’ Dp. Positive and negative copingstyle, personality dimension, distributive and procedural justice, role ambiguity, work interference with family, three dimensions of social support, workload and jobcontrol correlate significantly with doctors’ RPA. Family interference with work andprocedural justice are the most important factors of the totals of OccupationalBurnout through regression analysis.Conclusions: The effects of the demographic, personalistic and organizationalfactors on Occupational Burnout of clinical doctors in west area of China all come indifferent ways. Comparing with doctors in other areas, the burnout status of clinicaldoctors in west area of China has some very different characters. Burnoutintervention must be taken carefully according to the special characters of differentpopulation, related strategies should be carried out extensively and thoroughly alongthe way of individual-team-group-organization-society.
