Vincenzo Bellini is a crucial Romantic composer in the first half of the19th century, who was renowned as Rossini and Donizetti. Many composers followed his step on style. He set up a standard for Romantic Operas on developing the characters and writing melodies.The main topic in this thesis is how to analyze and perform the musical language of Giulietta in the opera ⅠCapuleti ed Ⅰ Montecchi written by Vincenzo Bellini. The arias and ensembles of Giulietta need a high requirements to the opera actors in singing skills, music and drama performances although this opera is not as renowned as his other operas, such as La Sonnambula, Norma and ⅠPuritani.Firstly, the background and romanticism are discussed at the beginning of the thesis. Then, the author deeply analyzes the style of Bellini’s opera. With the development of the drama structure, relationships of the characters and the music style, the author explores the characters of lyrics and dramatics in order to reveal the meaning of the opera. At last, the author chooses the representative arias of Giulietta to support the topic of the thesis and conclude the methods of how to be a good diva to help the learners.Besides the preface, this thesis is divided into three chapters. In the preface, the author presents the topic and gives an explanation. In the first chapter, Bellini’s Giulietta is discussed. In the second chapter, the structure and musical language is analyzed. And in the third chapter, the how to perform the character of Giulietta is discussed.
