| Han Chinese folk songs can be classified by color of tune and geographical region as following eight different areas:south of Yangtze River, Fujian-Guangdong-Taiwan, Hunan-Hubei, Southwest, Northwest, North, Northeast, Yangtze and Huaihe River valley. Among them, Northeast Han folk song is unique regarding to its musical characteristics, which is exemplified by the skillful employment of various ornamentations. This paper provides insight into ornamentation characteristics in Northeast Han folk songs, with focus on Boeing flower tongue, Dayton tone and portamento.This paper consists of four parts including introduction, two chapters and conclusion. The introduction sketches the geographical environment of Northeast China. Chapter one is an overview of musical characteristics of the Northeast folk songs from the four aspects--the basic melody line, tonality, rhythm and musical form. Chapter two is intended to explore all kinds of ornamentations used in the Northeast Han Chinese folk songs, especially appoggiatura, mordent, trill with prefix and portamento. Through a number of examples, the music technique of emotional expression though ornamentation in Northeast folk song is analyzed. At last, the analogy between this music technique and northeast dialect is presented. |
