My Brilliant Career is written by Miles Franklin, an Australian writer. It is considered as a literary classic. Although this work was published a century ago, its literary value today is still thought highly. The reader is not only deeply attracted by the atmosphere of jungle life, but also by the wonder of16-year-old Franklin who can show the extraordinary talents in her girlhood. It shows the burst of inspiration sparks and eternal charm.My Brilliant Career, this famous Australian literatury work depicts the women image with an unique perspetive. In the western literary works, the female image finally is written to be degenerated into the men’s subsidiary, or a victim of society. She is an important writer in the history of Australian literature. Before this literary works is published, the hero, the jungle men and women, often struggle in the nature and harsh invionment. Franklin focuses more on the character and inner conflict. Through the description of the herione’s inner activities, and comparison with Jane Eyre, this thesis summarizes and shows the heroine’s character.In My Brilliant Career, the heroine of the novel has begun to awaken. She begins, to desire for knowledge, for freedom and art. She begins to struggle with the traditional conventions. It is also reflected clearly in Jane Eyre. The two heroines have the same experience of being family teachers. In their life, they are fearless, and they dare to struggle with reality. However, there are some differences between them. They come from different family background, living in the different environment. They are at different ages, so their values of love are different.
