Zhang Juzheng And North Frontier Policy

Zhang Juzheng is a famous politician and reformer in Ming dynasty. The theme on Zhang Juzheng is always concerned by scholars.A large number articles and works on him have been published, but most of them focused on the aspect of reform, only a few scholars and works paid their attentions on the topic of Zhang Juzheng’s north frontier policy. This thesis analyzed the strategy and means which Zhang Juzheng has been taken in dealing with north frontier affairs based on the basic historical materials.The above analyses illustrated that Zhang Juzheng is a important character in north frontier affairs dunging the Longqing and Wanli period in Ming dynasty. This thesis divided into four parts, the author analyzed the hostile condition between Ming and Mongol during Longqing and Wanli period. In the second and third part, author makes detailed description about the strategy and means which Zhang Juzheng has been taken in dealing with north frontier affairs, in order to strengthening north frontier defence. Author investigated the effect of Zhang Juzheng’s north frontier policy.
