The critics gone through two phases on recognizing the decadent when it was introduced into China. The first phase is from the beginning of the May fourth period to the time that "Cultural Revolution" broke out, the study on the decadent was constrained by the powerful effects of social criticism, and they treated the decadent as a negative phenomenon of literature. The second phase is from the start of New Age, some new achievements are made especially in recent years, and they surpassed social criticism, started their research from the perspective of the aesthetic, and revealed aesthetic characteristics of the decadent. However, the study of the "decadent color"was not achieving greater breakthroughs, especially lacking of system research on decadent color of Mao Dun’s work. This paper based on three novels of Mao Dun’s work, Eclipse trilogyã€Rainbowã€Midnight respectively. I will treat the decadence as an independent literary phenomenon in the context of aesthetics, and attempt to dig the artistic features and spiritual connotation of the decadence.The paper comprises three chapters. The first chapter relates to the history and property of the decadence, which involves the source of the decadence in western world, its changes and the situation of research in China.The content of second part is concentrated on the specific performance of the decadence in Mao Dun’s work. Mainly from the environmental characters in description and narrative author in the desire of viewing on performance in three aspects to analyze. In the portrayal of the characters, mainly analyzes the three kinds of character of decadent expression, a is the era of the new women, two times is the male youth, three is the other characters, especially in new era female for the analysis of the key. In the second chapter of the fourth Festival, the narrative is in the works of Mao Dun decadent color essence, to dig is Mao Dun characters decadent spirit connotation.The decadent value of Mao Dun constitutes the main research content of chapter three. As a left-wing critic who has an enduring interest in the decadence in the West, he dissected the spiritual connotation of the decadence with the opinion of "For Life", and developed the useful contents and discarded the useless details. He redefined the boundary of its meaning and rebuild left-wing’s decadent idealistic sample. |
