And he had been assigned by royal appointment to be the editor of<Brief History of Buddhism in Song Dynasty><Brief History of Buddhism in Song Dynasty> edited by Zanning is a cyclopaedia of buddhism, different with other kind of buddhism history, there are only fifty-nine parts in this30,000words book. But this book contains the original and innovative historical cases of buddhism since it had been transmitted to China. Before editting the book, Zanning felt since buddhism had been transmitted to China, it’s influence had been weakened during the process of transmition, so he found it was very important to write a book to improve the influence and knowledge of buddhism that can induct people to learn buddhism and thus laying a more solid foundation for development of buddhism.For this paper, the research of<Brief History of Buddhism in Song Dynasty> is fouced on the biography of the author, the time when he finished this book and by doing some research of Zanning’s biography, this paper uncover the authoritarianism of Zanning and which kind of contribution that the trend of buddhism secularization made to the naissance of Neo-Confucianism of the Song Dynasty, since the biginning of buddhism had been transmitted to China.
