Ci as a kind of literary forms, has its sole quality of aesthetic feeling which is different from poetry. YE Jia-ying summed the qualities as "beauty of passive virtue" By a long-term study on Zhang Huiyan’s theory who was the representative of the Changzhou Ci School in Qing Dynasty and the great master Wang Guowei’s works in the Field of Ci, Ye pointed out that they two had their own inadequacies. Zhang’s bailment theory is a more suitable way for the descriptive Ci in the Southern Song Dynasty, while the evaluation theory of Wang’s was much more appropriate way to the lyrical in Tang and Five Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty. With some relationship between her ideological experience, characteristics, temperament and "beauty of passive virtue", Ye found this theory in the process of study Ci works of Yi minority. To sum it up,"beauty of passive virtue generally contains three aspects of content. One is faced with much pressure, another is the attitude of the Convergence Confinement, expressing with indirect way. The third is that there are some kept, completed though using some deep and quiet expressing way. This kind quality of aesthetic feeling could be seen in all sorts of Ci works such as the lyrical, the poetic and the descriptive Ci in the peak of the Tang and Five Dynasties Song Dynasty It should be noted that Ci form of yi chang san tan is not only more suitable for the expressing way of "beauty of passive virtue", but this form itself also has the quality of this beauty. This theory no doubt gives some new vigor and vitality to the Ci field which had no formed any unified evaluation standard of assessment for a very long time. With consideration the specific expressing way of Ci,"beauty of passive virtue" has also its own inadequacies.
