Carson McCullers is an excellent female writer of Literature of American South inthe20thcentury, and her representative works include The Heart is a LonelyHunter,The Member of the Wedding and The Ballad of the Sad Café. As a whole, allher works intend to represent one theme—loneliness and spiritual isolation.The sense of solitude and confusion that the leading characters in her novels showis not only an experience of one person, but also the overall feeling of the commonpeople beyond the specific historical and cultural context and limits of space-time. Theinextricable loneliness that people past and present mentally indentify with, which isthe reason why the enduring charm of Carson McCullers’ novels has been existed allthe time.The paper makes three respective works as analysis, discussing the types of themeabout loneliness, the concrete embodiments of lonely characters, the reason why theloneliness view takes shape and aesthetic meanings of loneliness in the process of thecreation of novels, together with Carson McCullers’ special experience, thebackground of the culture of American South and particular female’s view, unfolds thepeculiarity of the theme of loneliness in Carson McCullers’ novels and discuss how thetheme affect the view of life of the modern people.
