According to the classification of stance markers in D.Biber et al.’s Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English, the thesis adopts corpus-based theory approach to process and analyze100English research articles written by Chinese scholars in Life Science International Conference Proceedings and native English scholars in Life International Science Journals via data processing software like FoxPro, SPSS, Excel and Wordsmith4.0.5611stance tokens are extracted from two corpora. This study analyzes stance markers in terms of numbers, lexical categories and semantic meanings, aiming to reveal features of stance markers in English Life Science Research Articles written by Chinese Scholars and Native English Scholars and assist Chinese scholars to write better academic papers.Features of stance markers used by Chinese scholars in Life Science International Conference Proceedings and native English scholars in Life International Science Journals are as follows, as for the total amount, native English scholars use more stance markers; as for the lexical categories, both Chinese scholars and native English scholars use various forms of stance markers, including verbs, nouns, modal verbs, adverbs, adjectives and stance complements, they tend to use more verbs and modal verbs as stance markers in life science English research articles; Chinese scholars tend to use can, could more frequently than may, might. This research further discusses the influence of stance markers on discourse construction from the principle of politeness and interpersonal function.Based on quantitative and qualitative study, the research reveals features of stance markers in English research articles written by Chinese scholars in Life Science International Conference Proceedings and native English scholars in Life International Science Journals. It will provide some references for second language teaching and writing.
