A film called Kung Fu Panda made by Dream Works got great success in2008.This film just told a simple story in which a lazy, soft-bodied panda called Po grew to bethe true Dragon Warrior. After three years, the sequel of Kung Fu Panda was screenedand also created a high box office record. The great success of this film including itssequel is absolutely worth studying. The author of this thesis tries to analyze this filmwith multicultural perspective to prove that the cultural integrations of different culturesin the film not only agree with Western values, but also try to enrich Western culture withtraditional Chinese values.First of all, this thesis introduces the theory about multiculturalism. As a keyconcept in cultural criticism,“multiculturalism” advocating different ethnicity shouldmaintain their unique cultural traditions. All cultures in America should maintain peacefulcoexistence. And Dream Works integrated two different cultures in Kung Fu Panda.Generally speaking, these cultural integrations have been finished from two aspects. Theintegration of forms was showed from four aspects. They were respectively theintegration of Chinese elements and American humor, the combination of music style, thecombination of actors cast, and the combination of the oral English expressions. As forthe cultural integration of value, they mainly refer to two integrations. Firstly, theintegration of Chinese knight-errant spirits and the American Dream were showed well inthe film. Secondly, the integration of Chinese filial piety and Western individual freedomis also showed in the film. The two different cultures exist like mosaic in the film. Moreover, Chinese values in the film have a positive effect for Western culture. This filmcan be considered as a good try for the coexistence of different cultures in harmony. Theauthor thinks that this study will be helpful for cross-culture studies.
