The Primary Research Of The Language Of Pastel Figure Painting

Pastel is a kind of art that obtains dramatic expressions.A large number of artists created many classic and reputable masterpieces by using pastels of which the distinctive features such as easy to carry use, reserve, colorful and expressive enjoy great popularities among the artists. As an important type of artistic creation, paintings of characters also attract many artists. During over300years’development, classical works of pastels of characters emerge. For example, a great master Degas accumulated the precious experiences and bases for the practical and theoretical researches of pastels of characters.The development of pastels synchronizes with that of art. The creations of pastels of characters also experience the procedure of transforming the means of showing arts from representational realism to abstract expression.Since renaissance, pastel artists have been advocated the representational realism which tend to change and is gradually combined with modern arts.The path of developing with the contemporary arts with own unique characteristics has been formed.Due to the uniqueness of material and means of expression, pastels have many outstanding features such as the emotional expression of "instantaneity", the specialties of skill of "compatibility’,the participation of "experience" and so on.All of these enable pastels to be one of the most useful kinds of art which can not only portrait the inner heart of characters, but also generalize the expressions. What deserves more attentions should be the direct participation of painters and the object feelings of human can be positively stimulated. Thus, the emotional participations and expressional abilities are further enriched.This paper discuss the artistic features of pastels on the bases of Degas’and my experiences of creation, as well as the distinguishes between the pastels and the oil paintings and the Chinese traditional paintings.It can be found that pastels will not only form the artistic language different from other forms of arts, but also will achieve new artistic language and forms, and will enjoy greater development as a new kind of access and tool of artistic creations.
