Wu Ying, a female literature, who was detained over a long period of time andpublished a lot of works when Northeast was Japanese-occupied. She played suchan important role and was known together with Mei Niang as the most great writerin the literary arena of that time, so that was deserved much attention after theleaving of Xiao Hong from northeast. Her short story collection "Two Extremes"rewarded "Wen Xuan Jiang" which is the only time folk literature award ofManchukuo. On one hand, as a female literature sticked in the enemy-occupied area,Wu Ying suffered the pain of losing homeland and the oppression of alien race. Onthe other hand, based on the background of individual and female liberation, sheintrospected profoundly tragic fates of women caused by the evil feudal socialsystem and cruel patriarchal society. It is the gory oppression of alien race andinveterately feudal tradition that gave double distress of general females. Mostfigures in Wu Ying’s works are women who were mostly depicted tragically andlived with no hope. She always compassionately observed women in occupied area, plainly portrayed them in a inornate style, leisurably gained insight into their soulson female standing, deeply analyzed the internal genes of the female character, andvividly exposed the weakness of women. This thesis studies throughly in the creation course, creation environment, living condition and of Wu Ying——"an eminent literature of Manchu "based on the"Two Extremes" and other works published shatteringly on magazines andnewspapers, and pays corresponsive attention to this" gentle, graceful, tenacious"woman through her inner world in such a turbulent age.The first part focuses on the literary progress of Wu Ying and analyzes how thecoercion policy of culture breeded in that puppet regime affected her creation. Underthe uncharitable culture policy, she was ordered to avoid facts of colonial dominationand to varnish peace. However, as an intellectual women of new generation, how could she ignore resentments when faced the lost of homeland? This contradictionhas caused the suffering of her soul. Wu Ying’s life experiences and identity as awoman writer prompted her to think from female perspective, to explore problems ofwomen themselves. By this way, she could show the confusion and helplessness ofwomen, from neotenous girls to dying ladies, in the most direct style. Beyond allquestions, Wu Ying was active and typical in the literary circle of that time. Shecreated novels, engaged meanwhile in literary editor. She always edited andpublished the last pure literature periodicals in Northeast enemy-occupiedarea——"Manchuria literature",edited "Anthology of world-famous fiction ", editedand published "Short anthology of modern Manchuria women writer", and wasdesignated as the "Manchuria" representative attending the first "Greater East AsiaLiterature Conference" in1942. As a literary commentator, Wu Ying understoodwomen writers deeply, commented incisively and uniquely. By combing hercomments to Xiao Hong, Mei Niang, Dan Ding, Yang Xu, Xuan Ling and otherwomen writers, we can see Wu Ying’s literary thinking and creation philosophy andknow a maturer, more thoughtful WuYing. The second part focuses on figures in Wu Ying’s works. The first category is oldChinese woman, such as Mrs. Jin in "Xi", the first wife of Jin family, the first wife in"Gui" and the sixth wife of Zhang family in "Two Extremes". Wu Ying grasped thedetails to portray those traditional women who suffered tragic experiences in thetraditional society and carefully appreciated the bitterness of life. The second category is the old fashioned lady in declining family who lived in anew society but could not get used to it and became to be the victim in such greatchanges of this era, such as Chun Hua sister-in-law of "New Ghost", the forthsister-in-law in Qiang family of " the forth sister-in-law of Qiang family", the younglady in "Xu Yuan".The third category is the educated women or working women who was nolonger oppressed by the feudal society, but lost themself in new era, ormisinterpreted the meaning of woman liberation, and them sought interests blindlyand unscrupulously. The fourth category carefully written by Wu Ying, is the awakened people at bottom of the society who struggled with the old society, the old ethics, the oldsystem. Whether the vagrant in "Wang Xiang" who considered nothing to be afraidof as long as with efforts, or Cui Hong, who was a straightforward and vixenishprositute, Wu Ying gave the positive significance to those bottom people who wereawakened, protesters, and full of hope. The ideological content, language style andcharacterization in this category were Wu Ying’s new attempt.
