In oder to transfer and generalize Buddhistic tenets into life ofmasses, being a part of Vietnamese vocabulary, Buddhistic terminologyshould be translated and standardised according to Vietnamese wordformation rules. Buddhistic tenets, therefore, can be easily understood,acquired by general masses. There, however, hasn’t been any researchdone in the translation of Buddhistic terminology from Chinese intoVietnamese.The Buddhistic Collection of Discourses in Chinese is considered asthe most perfect of all existing ever by many Buddism scholars. Based onthe estimated data, the Buddhistic Collection of Discourses translatedinto Vietnamese accounts for only about20%of those written in Sino-Chinese. In my view, so as to have a modern, standard BuddhisticCollection of Discourses in Vietnamese, it is necessary to have a uniquetheoretical system for the translation of Buddhistic Collection ofDiscourses. The standardsation of the translation of BuddhisticCollection of Discourses into Vietnamse has become the prerequisitefactor.With the regard to make a small contribution to the classical tranferand translation of Buddhistic terminology from Sino-Chinese intoVietnamese, I have carried out research on the formation of Buddhisticterminology in Sino-Chinese, aquiring the experience of Buddhisticterminology Chinese translators such as Huyen Trang, La Thap……combining with the achievement of modern translation theoryas well as of terminology theory, so as to apply those theories in buildingthe theory of the translation of Buddism terminology in general andBuddism terminology in Tipitaka <<Tam T ng Pháp S>> in particularfrom Sino-Chinese into Vietnamese. In this thesis, I have an attempt tointroduce an overal view of terminology, Buddism terminology, andBuddism terminology in Tipitaka, as well as its origin, structure,characteristics, classification……….. We also have made a comparisonbetween the Buddism terms written in Sino-Chinese in Tipitaka and theirequivalents translated into Vietnamese in Vietnamese BuddismDictionary to avoid making mistakes when translating.Firstly, a comparison between numeral translation method and theneuclear structure in the terms used in Tipitaka and in the dictionary isdone, considering the unity in translation of these terms, to find outwhether they are suitable to the Vietnamese word formation rules. Afterthe comparison, those terms which are not appropriately translated,according to the rules are listed as examples to demonstrate itsinaccuracy in the process of creating the discource. At last, we would liketo provide a special theoretical system for the translation of Buddismterminology.Using scientific methods, we have pointed out the mistakes madeduring the translation of Buddism terminology written in Tipitaka by thepredecessors such as:1. Overuse of Sino-Chinese sounds.2. The use ofinaccurate formation of Vietnamese words.3. The use of local dialects.4.The mechanical and obscure translation. The translation of Buddism terminology is the initial step for thetranslation of classical Buddism. It is, therefore, necessary to have aunique system of Buddism terminology, familiar and easy to understandin Vietnamese in order to fully transfer the meaning of a discourse,attaining the supernatural, magic power and elegant style to preserve anddevelop the purity of Vietnamese. This thesis aims to provide a specialtheoretical system for the translation of Buddism terminology and areasoning system for the translation of Buddism which are required tohave such a system of terminology.
