At the end of the thesis, the author gives some suggestions to the teachers and students for the sake of improving the non-English major students’writing quality. The research use SPSS (17.0) to discuss the problems around these two questions:1) What are the characteristics of using but, however and so in the high and low marks of the compositions in the writing of College English students?2) Whether the frequent use of but, however and so in writing will affect the final score for College English students or not?The author has two findings in the study:1) No matter the groups of high marks and low marks, students all overuse but and so, and underuse however. The low group used more but, however and so than the high group.2) The frequency of but, however and so will affect the quality and the final score of the argumentative writing.Based on the above study, teachers should change the respective to treat the students’compositions, placing coherence and cohesion the position prior to all factors that can influence the quality of the texts.
