Study On The Water Supply And Use Of The Shang Dynasty

The Shang Dynasty was an important part of China’s ancient civilization, Research about society of the Shang Dynasty was in the ascendant, The people obtained and maked use of the water resources is an important aspect of the social life in Shang Dynasty. In this paper, on the basis of previous studies, combined with the new archaeological material and used interdisciplinary to research in-depth and comprehensively how to obtain and use the water resources of the Shang Dynasty. The whole thesis was divided into seven sections including the introduction, the water resources of the Shang Dynasty, Application of the water,How to get the water and Processing the wastewater, The way to obtain the water in different areas and cities, The relationship among Environment,water and Human habitat, The concluding remarks.Climate on the whole of the Shang Dynasty was warm and humid, but sometimes drought, show fluctuating up and down in the Shang Dynasty, natural environment was superior and rich in water resource in Shang Dynasty which provide the safeguard for life and the production. The country was dominated by agriculture in Shang Dynasty, the water that used by Agricultural occupies a major position which mainly come from the rain, At the same time also has appropriate drainage and irrigation facilities.Shang Dynasty also was a handicraft developed society, handicraft department was various, technology was exquisitly. the water use by handicraft was the most important aspects, too. Archaeological materials show that there were lots of wells around the handicraft industry,we can speculate that the water what handicraft industry use by was come from the wells. The water for living also was the most important aspects,Shang Dynasty has a large population and the town prosperity those all increase water consumption. According to information from the current view, the water for living was for drinking, bathing, city beautification, fire protection and other, it’s come from the rivers, lakes, wells, pool. The archaeological data indicate that the Shang Dynasty city has a set of water supply and drainage system, people not only get the water easily but also abolition of wastewater treatment in a timely manner through the system.Different regions and settlement scale, the water obtained and used in different ways. The center area of Shang Dynasty is the center of power, it’s has a large population, a large city size and used large water. Center of regional and local areas were compared to small villages that have lots of ways to get the water, the water supply and drainage facilities were high specification. Climate was different in the North and the South area, the way which to get the water was different,too.The North water come from the groundwater, but the South come from the rivers, lakes, Drainage facilities in the South was not complete compare with the North’s, the well quantity, depth, and the shape also different. Environment and water, human habitat in close relationship, and influence each other.Water resources and human habitat dependent on nature environment, The environment is superior, is rich in water resource, drainage facilities increased, long live site,the prosperity of the country; The deterioration of the environment, the emergence of flood or drought, water supply and drainage facilities corresponding change, forcing the address or capital movements, even countries perish.From the depth of the well changes can be mapped out changes in the local environment.
