Research On The Imagery Of Weapons And Persenality Of Characters In Jin Yong’s Swordsmen Novels

ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between weapon imagery and its master’s personality and other psychological characteristics. To explore the cultural and psychological meanings of weapon imagery.MethodsDeeply reading all JinYong’s Swordsman novels, coding all characters and their weapons in the novels and explaining the relationships between weapon and its master’s personality and other psychological characteristics using methods of quantitative research and special-case study.ResultsIn Jinyong’s swordsmen novel, weapons’sharpness, toxicity and size are highly correlated with swordsmans’intelligence, shrewdness and masculine qualities. Specific weapon imageries are highly correlated with how swordsmans perform their aggressivity.ConclusionIn Jinyong’s swordsmen novel,imagery of weapons are highly correlated with their users’ personality.
